About Ayyappa Seva Sangham
In the 1970’s there was an increase in the Indian immigrant population. During those days, they did not have a place here, to assemble and pray, like we do in India. Even though the Hindu Temple Society in Flushing was established in 1977, Ayyappa devotees still felt a vacuum. Finally, in 1991, Ayyappa Seva Sangham was formed to take in to consideration the wishes of the growing number of devotees.
The 1st National Ayyappa Convention
Ayyappa Seva Sangham, New York Chapter, celebrated its 1st National Ayyappa Convention on Sunday 9th December from 3pm to 9 pm at the Auditorium of Vaishnav Temple of New York, 100 Lakeville Rd, New Hyde Park, with various cultural programs. Like-minded People from all walks of life participated in this Convention.
Ayyappa Vratham
The Ayyappa Shrine in the Shri Siiva Vishnu Temple is a blessing to those living all over North America who would like to observe the Ayyappa Vratham and climb the holy 18 steps every year. Devotees who have been to Sabarimala in India but could not continue to go there due their move to North America, consider SSVT Ayyappa Shrine as the “Sabarimala of the West.” Devotees climbing 18 steps at SSVT follow the same rigorous austerities of Ayyappa Vratham.
